IDEA
It was born of great dreams. It came into being as one of the boldest projects in reborn Poland. Today it exudes the power to attract visionaries – people who, like it, always look in only one direction. Into the future.
It intrigues, although it is modest in drawing attention. It is young, original, authentic. Once in the shadow of its Tricity neighbours, today it appears not only as an icon of Polish modernism, but as a place where it is simply good to live.
Gdynia.
To celebrate the centenary of this electrifying city, Invest Komfort decided to create an urban park in its centre and erect a building just like Gdynia. Surprising, unobvious, enticing. For Miasto GDY is being built out of love for Gdynia.
Like the city, it will be distinctive, strongly expressive yet simultaneously open and welcoming. It will welcome locals running restaurants, cafés and shops, and thanks to its location in the heart of Władysław IV Street, it will become a prominent point on the map of Gdynia.
1. Avant-garde architecture inspired by the Bauhaus: an interwar classic in the aesthetics of the future.
2. A multifaceted, comfortable apartment complex adjacent to a park.
3. A desirable location in the heart of a city that, not without reason, is considered the happiest in Poland.
What does Miasto GDY feel as its history continues to be written? When it started with a grand design that is ever progressing? When a new expressive block with public green areas is being built in its centre?

More than an urban trend
Gdynia is alive, but in its own way. It has a lightness about it and is not overwhelming. Miasto GDY has the same energy. It stands out among its modernist surroundings without arrogance. It does not need to prove anything. It is not establishing a new centre – it is becoming one. It is impossible to be closer to Gdynia.
- Centre 2.0: Władysław IV Street is the main transport hub connecting Gdynia with the rest of the Tricity. Here, urbanity has a style of its own, difficult to grasp but impossible to ignore. Leaving Miasto GDY allows you to mingle with everyday life. The location will satisfy anyone who likes to have everything just a stone’s throw away. You can be close to the centre or simply be the centre.
- A real lightness of being: A blend of urban bustle and seaside tranquillity. Miasto GDY is located between a main artery, full of life and activity, and a park. The advantages of living in the city and close to nature are not a contemporary trend, but an essential urban element. A multidimensional living space – rare, yet so essential.
- Views of everything: The 360-degree rotation makes it possible to locate every spot that satisfies your needs. All around, you can sense the vibrations that carry you forward. Nearby cafés and restaurants resonate with laughter and tempting aromas, shopping centres offer a full range of goods. There is no shortage of anything. Even sunbathing. Miasto GDY is “living by the sea” in the truest sense. An energy not found anywhere else makes life here different, lighter. You don’t live in the city. You are part of it. A part of Miasto GDY. A part of the city of GDYnia.
Classical yet original modernism
This new residential space is located in a demanding neighbourhood. Here, Gdynia’s functionalism and modernism have captivated people for generations, posing a challenge for Miasto GDY’s architects. What if we took from the best but gave ourselves a distinct character, without copying the classics, instead creating a recognisable building that will become a new, landmark address on the map of the Tricity?
- A new generation of architecture:Light façades, large horizontal windows, columns combined with an arcade and a set-back entrance – these elements have characterised Gdynia’s buildings for almost 100 years. Creating in the Bauhaus spirit is timeless and still alive. Miasto GDY, however, is not an adaptation of local modernist legends. It is a fresh approach. It stands out from the urban landscape and at the same time respects its most important rules.
- Expressiveness of form:The frontage from Władysław IV Street is formed by a flat façade enclosed by windowed balconies. The loggia structure built from the east creates a three-dimensional, strongly chiaroscuro façade. The variety of shapes and the abundance of reflected light give the architecture of Miasto GDY a peculiar character. It is eccentric and unusual – from all angles.
- A present-day avant-garde: The colourfulness of Gdynia’s modernism captivates and inspires successive generations. Paweł Majkusiak, of the award-winning studio JEMS Architekci, knows this. It is he and his team who have made Miasto GDY functional and almost magical. The balconies, which are several metres long, also constitute an unconventional design, unprecedented on the map of the city, and at the same time pragmatic – because they are focused on the wellbeing of Miasto GDY’s residents. They ensure residents’ peace and quiet and shield them from noise, while offering acoustic comfort through their windows and Lumon glazing.
A distinctive interior identity
Miasto GDY reveals an unconventional, quite spectacular interior. Upon first entering, no one can be left indifferent. This space, art, harmony of forms – it is true minimalism in a monumental guise. The POTE architekci studio, responsible for this concept, does not succumb to obvious trends, nor does it accept compromises. Miasto GDY is proof of this.
- Memorable textures: The focal point of the design is the spacious lobby. Its metropolitan authenticity is imparted by the contrast of black and white. The concrete floor with sunken glass aggregate and the walls covered with stainless steel panels strongly emphasise the distinct identity of the place. Glass and metal reflect light, drawing the eye to the mosaics. These interiors are surprisingly spacious and detailed.
- Value in the unassuming: The craftsmanship of Polish artists signifies the new story that Miasto GDY is writing. The monumental reliefs and prints are impossible to miss. Glass pieces used on the counter or even as decorations in the lobby windows, are true works of art. Plus the iconic Italian sofa and lighting – design classics. Simply avant-garde.
- A quiet interior counts: Even from outside, the glass loggias are striking. Their function is to let as much light as possible into the apartments and ensure maximum intimacy. Each apartment has a balcony several metres long, and those in the busiest sections have been fitted with additional “rooms” – glass patios that shield them from street noise. The voice of the city is intended to be an easily accessible option, not an unpleasant obligation.
Miasto GDY has the best ahead of it
The design of this modern residential apartment concept was created out of love for Gdynia on its 100th birthday. Even without having roots here, you’ll want to grow new ones. There is still plenty to do in this young city. The potential? Huge. And constant change – always for the better.
- Green prospects: Cities without greenery simply do not make sense. Gdynia’s white, conceptual architecture, which reveals a different face on each side, will be enriched by the park – because contact with nature emphatically improves the quality of life, especially in a metropolis. A picnic with friends, a moment with a book on a blanket, a walk with your dog?
- In harmony with architectural nature: Gdynia is a city that is constantly evolving. Founded in the 1920s, it has always looked boldly to the future and attracted people with a vision. One such person is Małgorzata Sobótka from Studio Krajobraz, who arranged the plant formations into squares and rectangles to echo the shapes on the building’s exterior. The plant beds are supplemented with solitary trees and shrubs, and the flora is enclosed in a geometric pattern which encloses the apartment complex on all sides.
- A relaxing city centre: Miasto GDY is intended to be relaxing. The concept behind the park is to maximise leisure potential. Without radicalism – simply by upgrading the existing footpaths and park architecture. The centre of Gdynia will get a modern, densely green space with lots of trees, and residents will get plenty of shade and surprising silence.
