What makes a home?- Agnieszka Holland

Home is a reflection of the self. I could say “Show me how you live and I will tell you who you are.”. It’s the same when I’m discussing the set design for films. My characters have to live in a particular space, have to have a specific house. When I worked with Alan Starski, who had previously created “The Maids of Wilko” with Andrzej Wajda, I knew he was an exceptional production designer. He didn’t just furnish the whole house, or the small manor house I guess you would call it, but he also did the insides of every cabinet and drawer. If one of the actors decided to open one of the drawers, then they would see everything they would usually expect to find there.
